FEBUARY 2004
Febuary 14th 2004:
- I regret to inform you that this web site will no longer be updated, and
will disappear from the face of the web on March 14th 2004. It's not an easy
decision for me to make, but let's face it: The e-Reader is pretty much dead.
Online stores like Gamestop, EBGames and others no longer bother to list future
e-Card series on their sites, and even Nintendo seems to have lost interest,
since nintendo-e-reader.com
hasn't been updated in ages, and nintendo.com
hardly mentions the e-Reader. The only confirmed upcoming e-Reader series is
the Team Magma vs Team Aqua Pokémon-e TCG expansion, and that's
certainly not enough to keep me interested.
By the way, don't bother to tell me about Amazon.com, because they display
bogus release dates designed to trick people into pre-ordering. No one who
works at Amazon has any real clue as to when future e-Card series will be
released.
You might say that closing the site now might be premature, that the Super
Mario Advance 4-e (Series 3 and 4) and the Game & Watch-e series
may still be released later this year. My answer to those arguments is simple:
I don't care. Nintendo has been giving us the silent treatment for too long,
and they made us wait for the good stuff (such as the Game & Watch-e
cards) for even longer. The e-Reader is a failure, not in terms of technical
implementation, but rather in terms of Nintendo's support of the device. Some
might say that Nintendo did a pretty good job considering they released well
over 1000 cards over the e-Reader's life span, but that's not saying much
since most of those 1000 cards are either Pokémon-e or Animal
Crossing-e cards, which hardly tap into the e-Reader's potential.
Nintendo could have done so much more with the e-Reader, but it's too late now,
and I'd say it's time for me to move on to other projects. I'd like to thank
everyone who has helped me make this web site something I'm very proud of,
with special mentions for Tena, Stephanie Daugherty, UncleBob,
TheJerkle, and last but not least, Craig Harris (of IGN
Game Boy). Also, I'd like to thank all the rest of you loyal visitors for
making this web site a success, as the counter in the sidebar demontrates.
Oh, and in case you're wondering, yes, I'm going to keep my e-Reader and all my
e-Cards, for obvious sentimental reasons. And who knows, Nintendo may yet
surprise us in 2004. If the SMA4-e and G&W-e are eventually
released, I'll buy them for sure, but I won't be holding my breath waiting for
them. If they come, that's great, if they don't, too bad.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to blast some Space Pirate butts in Metroid
Zero Mission! Bye! :-)
