NOVEMBER 2003
November 1st 2003:
- Before anything else, I'd like to use this opportunity to thank Tena for
sending me a free copy of Super Mario Advance 4 with the Wal-Mart
exclusives. In fact, you should all thank her, because her generous gift made
me reconsider my decision to shut down this web site at the end of 2003.
Instead, I'll keep working on it for at least another year! To start things
off, I'll be adding a new section to this web site next week, which will
require your participation! So stay tuned! :-)
- All the scans of the Super Mario Advance 4-e and Pokémon
Battle-e series have been added to the e-Card Catalog! Special
thanks go to Mark Raby for scanning the SMA4-e Wal-Mart exclusives.
- Mark also sent me a link
that still puzzles me even now. I mean, if they're going to release the
e-Reader in Europe after all, why did they remove all the e-Reader features
from Super Mario Advance 4??? I must admit, I'm having a hard time
believing that article...
- I also added the scan of the "Grovyle Winner 004" e-Card (PN 00979) to
the e-Card Catalog.
- You'll find some interesting information about the Super Mario Advance
4-e cards on nintendo-e-reader.com
(click on the "All Cards" tab on the front page to access it), including PDF
checklists, which incidently don't even contain the Wal-Mart exclusives! Are
they in denial or something?? I hope it's just a phase... ;-P
- Just a little correction about the Game & Watch-e series: Last
week, I said that the "Collector" cards were modified versions of the "Color"
cards, but looking at the Game & Watch-e article in the latest issue
of Nintendo Power, it is clear that they are actually modified versions of the
"Classic" cards! Thanks go to Neocoff for pointing this out.
- I fixed a couple of typos in the Pokémon Battle-e checklist.
You might want to download the new version from the Checklists section.
- The news items for October have been moved to the News Archive
section.
November 8th 2003:
- LAST MINUTE UPDATE: I've just received word that a new
e-Reader promo card is being given away at Nintendo's
Mall Tour events. The encoded e-Reader application is supposedly a Kirby
slide puzzle game. You can read the details by checking out
this
link, but I would really appreciate it if someone could confirm this for
me. (And please get me a copy of the card, if you can!) ;-)
- As announced last week, a new section has been added to the site: The
Software Catalog! If you ever wanted to contribute something to this
site, this is your chance, because this new section depends on the contribution
of visitors like yourself! Be sure to read the instructions carefully though...
- A new promotional Pokémon-e card with the "WINNER" stamp
has surfaced this month, namely "Marshtomp (011)", which has been added to
the e-Card Catalog. I've also been informed that a special "Latias"
promo card will be released soon, but I'm waiting to know more about it
before adding it to the catalog.
- By the way, the palgn.com article I mentionned last week is actually
australian, not european. Thanks go to Liam for clearing this up. :-)
November 15th 2003:
- The promotional e-Card which I mentionned in my "last minute update"
last week has been added to the e-Card Catalog. Nin10do DuDe (the
one who originally posted
about the card on the gamefaqs.com e-Reader forum) picked up a copy of the
card for me and told me he would send it to me ASAP, which hopefully means I'll
be able to add the scans of this card to the catalog within the next couple of
weeks. In the meantime, if you want to see what this card looks like, just do
a search on eBay with the keywords "Kirby e-Reader".
- I also have some bad news related to this Kirby promo card: I've received
reports that the e-Card is not available at every Nintendo
Mall Tour location. There are supposedly two of these tours going on
simultaneously, but only one of them has (or had) cards to give away. Suffice
it to say that if you go to one of these "Mall Tour" events, there's no
guarantee that you'll find one of these ellusive Kirby Fox Box e-Cards. (Thanks
go to NintendoFreak and Tena for the reports.)
- As the official release date of the Game and Watch-e series draws
near, I've decided to do my part in helping you complete your collection: If
you look at the top of this section, you'll notice links to two special IGN
forum threads. One is for discussing, the other is for trading. Hopefully, you
can use these forum threads to your advantage. :-)
- Someone sent me an anonymous tip about three e-Cards being packaged with
the upcoming Pokémon Channel game for Game Cube (which will be
released on December 1st 2003). I did some research, and I came across a
picture
of the game's box at GameStop.com which confirms this. I sent some e-mail
to Nintendo, and this is the reply I received:
Actually, the upcoming Pokemon Channel game will includes three Pokemon
Channel e-Reader cards (although they've not been officially announced). In
any case, if you have a Game Boy Advance, a Nintendo GameCube/Game Boy Advance
Cable, and the e-Reader, you'll be able to scan these Pokemon Channel e-cards
in for more items in your game. Pokemon Channel is slated to arrive in 17
days, so hopefully we'll learn more by then. Stay tuned to our web site and
Nintendo Power magazine for all the latest Nintendo news!
Nintendo of America Inc.
Stephen Scott
I added a mention of this new series of e-Cards to the Future Releases
section, and I'll add those three Pokémon Channel promo e-Cards
to the e-Card Catalog once I've learned more about them.
- A few days ago, I also received some interesting information from
Zander Flash about the recent release of the e-Reader in Australia: It
seems the promotional e-Cards packed with the device are not the same as the
ones for North America:
We got no Animal Crossing card with e-reader instead we got 4 Pokemon
Promotional e-battle cards, Manhole, Air Hockey & Donkey Kong Jr.
[...]
The 4 Pokemon Promotionals are:
(008-P001) Dragontamer Craig
(008-P002) Ninjaboy Yasuo
(008-P003) Pokefan Darlene
(008-P004) Cool Trainer Mattego
You'll notice that the four promo cards listed above are NOT found in the
regular Pokémon Battle-e packs sold in North America! I asked
Zander to give me more details, but he hasn't replied yet. If you have any
information, or better yet, if you have these cards and can scan them for me,
please let me know.
- The official release of Pokémon-e EX Dragon is still over a
week away, but Nintendo has already updated both
nintendo-e-reader.com
and pokemon-tcg.com with
information on the new TCG expansion set. Every day between November 14th and
24th, you will find a new "featured card" on the front page of pokemon-tcg.com.
- Tena has been a very busy bee this past week: She optimized all the card
scans of the e-Card Catalog, which has reduced the size of each picture
file by 50%! You may notice a slight loss in picture quality, but I think it's
a small price to pay for the increase in available web space. Thanks Tena! :-)
- I have already received some documents for the new Software Catalog
section, but unfortunately, I've been too busy lately with other things to
convert these documents to HTML and integrate them into the site. Hopefully,
I'll have it all done by next week. No promises though.
November 22nd 2003:
- I've made quite a few updates to the catalog this week! First of all,
the scans of the "Kirby Slide Puzzle" card (PN 01078) have been added to the
e-Card Catalog. Special thanks go to Nin10do Dude for sending me
a free exemplary of this card!
- Also, while we're on the subject of this Kirby promo card, it will be
packed with the January 2004 issue of Nintendo Power magazine (vol. 175).
In case you haven't noticed, this card is actually a promotional vehicle for
the "e-Mazing Morning! Sweepstakes" held by the FoxBox.
There are quite a few e-Reader-related prizes to win in this contest, so I
suggest you click here
and here
for all the details. :-)
- Kelly Opfar (a.k.a. dooskoop on PokeGym.net) supplied me with
information and scans of the infamous "Pokemon-e Sample" promo cards, which
have all been added to the e-Card Catalog. (I say "infamous" because
each card in this group of 10 cards (PN 01078 to 01088) is extremely rare!)
- The four promotional Pokémon Battle-e cards (currently only
available in Australia) have also been added to the catalog.
- I also added the "Gyarados" pre-release promo card to the catalog.
(Thanks to Alvaro Riera for the heads-up!)
- Jason Bowers informed me that I mixed up the SMA4-e Series 1 and Series 2
cards in both the catalog and the SMA4-e checklist: To be precise, I marked
the Series 1 cards as being part of Series 2 and vice-versa. This has all been
fixed now, so you might want to download the new version of the checklist...
(I believe someone else told me about this mistake some time ago, but I didn't
believe I was at fault at the time. Real sorry, whoever you are!)
- I added two guides to the Software Catalog section (namely
Neocoff's Air Hockey-e guide, and Mark Raby's Mario Party-e FAQ),
and I also added a seventh rule to the instructions
for submitting documents to this section of the site.
- I've got some shockingly bad news for all of you: The release of the
Game & Watch-e series has been postponed, and pushed back to an
undetermined 2004 date. GameStop.com
says that the cards will be released in April, but I'd say it's pure
speculation at this point. I don't know about you, but I'm ANGRY! So angry in
fact that I've decided to protest by not adding any more e-Card scans to the
e-Card Catalog until Febuary 15th 2004! I figure if Nintendo is in no
hurry to give me what I want, I shouldn't be in any hurry to give them free
publicity. You'll note that I also removed the dedicated IGN forum links at
the top of this page. (Thanks go to Mark Raby for the report.)
- To end today's update on a happy note, I'd like to mention that the
site counter passed 20000 hits last Thursday morning! It seems to me like
it passed 10000 just yesterday! Thanks a lot for your support! :-)
November 29th 2003:
- All the cards of Pokémon-e EX - Dragon have been added to
the e-Card Catalog. (I'd like to thank UncleBob for giving me
the list of cards in the "Fire Fang" and "Wind Blast" theme decks.)
- There's also a new checklist for Pokémon-e EX - Dragon in the
Checklists section.
- Pokemon-tcg.com
now sports a new "greener" look to go with the release of Pokémon-e
EX - Dragon. And in the "Collecting" section of the site, there is a
special announcement about some new promo cards:
"Don't miss your chance to catch all three Bagon promo cards! Bagon will
be available in the January issue of Scrye (#67) and Inquest (#105), each with
a stamp exclusive to the publication. In addition, exclusive Gen Con Bagon
promo cards will be distributed at Gen Con So Cal in Anaheim, December 11 - 14."
- By the way, did you know that the Japanese version of Pokémon
Pinball Advance has e-Reader support? I sure didn't. That's one of the
things I learned by visiting the
e-Reader section of serebii.net. It seems Pokémon Colosseum
for Game Cube will also have e-Reader support (the japanese version anyway).
- Also, the latest issue of Nintendo Power (the January 2004 issue)
confirms that there will be three promo e-Cards packed with Pokémon
Channel for Game Cube. As if we needed any more confirmation... ;-P
